UPDATE: Ortega Reopens After Fatal Crash

Three-motorcycle wreck had closed all lanes near Antonio Parkway. William James Kaucky, 39, of Anaheim, dies at the scene.

A three-motorcycle crash on Ortega Highway claimed the life of one rider and closed the road for about two hours Sunday afternoon, officials said.

The crash, near the Lookout Roadhouse, was reported to the California Highway Patrol about 1:45 p.m.

It started when a 39-year-old Anaheim man riding east crashed his bike into an embankment, throwing him onto the road, where he was run over by a fellow rider, authorities said.

A third motorcyclist then went into a slide to avoid crashing into the second rider, who was injured in the pileup, according to California Highway Patrol Sgt. Richard Fuentes.

The Anaheim man, identified as William James Kaucky by the Riverside County Coroner's office, died at the scene. The other rider was taken to a local hospital, but his condition wasn't immediately available.

A SigAlert was issued at 2:14 p.m. and ended around 4:20 p.m., the CHP said.

During the closure, traffic from San Juan Capistrano was turned back at Antonio Parkway, although local residents were allowed east to El Cariso, according to City News Service.

Traffic from Lake Elsinore was halted at the Lake Elsinore Lookout.

Updated at 10:25 p.m. with the victim's name and video about the crash.

I knew Bill from various online motorcycle communities. This is a great loss, and my sympathies go to his family, friends and co-workers.

Bill was a man of faith, a dedicated engineer, and someone who put a lot of structure & passion into his pursuits: riding, weightlifting, and eating healthy. Above all he was a fun person to banter with.

I would be interested in the details of services so that I may pay my respects.
