Moms Talk: What's Appropriate For A Graduation Gift?

Check out what other moms in your neighborhood are chatting about this week, then put in your two cents.

The graduation season is upon us.

Question: How much is too much to spend for a grad gift? I know kids getting cruises to the Bahamas as a high school graduation gift, but I was thinking more along the lines of an iTunes gift card!

Answer: A cruise to the Bahamas? I'd do high school all over again for that! Seriously, though, that's a bit out of most people's budget. An iTunes gift card is a great idea for a high school grad. The cost, I'd say, should depend on how close you are to the person. I'd be willing to fork out a bit more for flesh and blood, but for a friend's son, a $20 gift card to a popular restaurant should do just fine. Flowers are always a nice gesture, too. If you want to get creative, get a basket and fill it with the grad's favorite snacks and throw in a few gift cards, sunscreen and a beach towel. Or try making a College Survival Kit, complete with Starbucks and book store gift cards, Tylenol, Top Ramen, candy and school supplies.

While my child is not getting a trip to the Bahamas for graduating high school she is getting a full dorm room of supplies! I shopped at http://www.dormco.com/?Click=18851 and found everything she needs for her dorm. The selction was amazing and I was even more impressed at the quality of the all in one bedding package when I recieved it. Sure it was more expensive than some of the bargains advertised in stores, however the quality of the bed linens was such that it was worth the extra money. the $2.95 flat rate shipping was a bonus too!
