Whiz Kid: Laura Munoz, Trabuco Hills High

This Yale-bound high school senior is a standout at school and in her community.

Whiz Kid: Laura Munoz

School/Grade: Trabuco Hills High School/Senior

Residence: Rancho Santa Margarita

Whiz Kid Accomplishment: Serves as an ASB representative, is vice president of the French club, was named Outstanding Attorney at the Mock Trial competition, serves on the Rancho Santa Margarita Teen Council and plans to attend Yale in the fall.

Key to Awesomeness: Laura wears many hats at Trabuco Hills High School, and she wears them all well. As an ASB representative, she rallies enthusiasm for school spirit days, leads volunteer events and helps organize teacher appreciation days. “My senior year would not have been the same without ASB,” she says. ASB advisor Linda Kimble, affectionately called the “Queen Bee” by her students, says that “Laura is wonderful, involved, compassionate, well rounded and considerate.”

ASB is just one of the on-campus activities Laura takes part in. She also participated in and enjoyed the school’s film festival, during which she had the opportunity to act in two independent student-made films.

One of Laura’s favorite activities at Trabuco is Mock Trial, which she has participated in since her sophomore year. The Mock Trial group competes against other schools as they act out real court cases. Laura was awarded Outstanding Attorney in the County and treated to a special lunch in Irvine, where she received a medal for her performance. While Laura does not plan to be a lawyer in real life, she says the public speaking skills she’s learned  have been invaluable.

Off campus, Laura is a member of the RSM Teen Council, where she helps with community events such as the Cox Carnival, canned food drives, and a book drive for the local library. Students from high schools all over the area come together to meet once a month and discuss ways to impact their local community.

Laura hopes to study International or Global Affairs at Yale in the fall, quite a testament to her good grades and outstanding performance and involvement at Trabuco Hills High. For her infectious school spirit, outstanding performance in the classroom and involvement in her community, Laura makes an outstanding Whiz Kid.
