• We whet your appetite about The Blind Pig with the announcement that it had opened in RSM. Take a look at our video for a closer look at the business and the opening ceremonies.

• Do you know somebody who's dialed in at school and is a wealth of information and can inform at a moment's notice? • Sentencing was finally handed down to UC Irvine professor Rainer Reinscheid, who set a series of arson fires following the suicide of his 14-year-old son. Reinscheid also wrote out threats to kill 200 University High students in retaliation, which was also taken into consideration. Find out how much prison time he received.

• The annual Harvest Crusade kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday at Angel Stadium with "American Idol" finalist Colton Dixon and Grammy-winner TobyMac. The event will also feature a message from Pastor Greg Laurie. The evangelistic gathering continues through Aug. 25. 

• John Webb is Always Right in his political blog, this week, taking on New York Democrat Charles Rangel and his comments in a Rolling Stone article.

• Sonia Marsh, author of her memoir Freeways to Flip-Flops, will be at Costco in Irvine for a book signing from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• The Orange County Small Business Development Center will present a 6 p.m. workshop on creating a successful business plan. Mission Viejo City Hall, Saddleback Room, 200 Civic Center. 

• Relive the 1950s this Sunday at the 14th annual Elvis Festival, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the OC Marketplace in Costa Mesa. Among the highlights: an Elvis hair contest, Mr. Potato Head Elvis key rings ($5), a car show and, of course, a hunka hunka King impersonators. Full details here.

• The California Celtic Classic opens Saturday at 10 a.m. The two-day event will feature vendors, a haggis-eating contest, bagpipe demonstrations, food and more. The Highland Games and Strong Man Events will also be featured. Sea Terrace Park, 33501 Niguel Road, Dana Point.

• A showcase of jewelry, beads, crystals, silver and gold begins Friday at the Gem Faire. The event will run through May 12. OC Fair and Event Center, Costa Mesa Building and Santa Ana Pavilion, 88 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa.

• The Wavelength Festival of Music, presented by the Pacific Symphony, runs through Aug. 25. Thursday's event includes a performance by Bonnie Raitt and special guest Keb' Mo. OC Fair and Event Center, Pacific Amphitheatre, Costa Mesa.
