Briefing RSM, July 23: SAMLARC and AEDs, Heart Failure

Worthwhile notes for residents of the Rancho Santa Margarita area.

Taking a look at what's going down and coming up for residents in the Rancho Santa Margarita area.

• The subject of automated external defibrillators figures to be the subject of intense discussion at the Beach Club today, 6 p.m., when SAMLARC holds a board meeting. SAMLARC says it won't discuss the drowning death of a 3-year-old amidst 700 people at its Independence Day celebration. SAMLARC's accountability and transparency, while not on the agenda, is likely to emerge from this meeting as well.

• Today is the last day to RSVP for a workshop on Thursday that will answer all your questions about congestive heart disease and failure. It will include a complementary (and healthy) meal. The event is at Park Terrace on Buena Suerte, which is presenting the event. Call 949-888-2250.

• It's not around the corner, but it's close enough that it might save you some pain. There's a workshop today by Dr. Jeffrey Van Rensselaer and associates in Lake Forest that will include free tests to determine if an innovative technique can help sufferers of Fibromyalgia and other chronic pain syndromes. Call 949-328-4980 to reserve a space. The event begins at 7 p.m. near Lake Forest and Rockfield.

• Are you down with drones in the air above Orange County? The Orange County Sheriff's Department is considering it as a cost-cutting measure for various tasks, including search and rescue. Can you say lost hikers? Click here for the story.

• Here's a talker for the water cooler. A Coto de Caza man was charged with 106 felony counts of animal cruelty—involving nearly 20,000 creaturesClick here for the story.

• If you've got the time, this discussion figures to have some pretty cool visuals. Computer graphics whizzes will discuss the visual effects in such films as “Pacific Rim,'' “Superman: Man of Steel'' and Disney's “Frozen” at the 40th International Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques, which runs through Thursday at the Anaheim Convention Center.
