10th Annual Trabuco Flyers Memorial Day Pig Roast & Fun Fly

For the past 10 years Trabuco Flyers has hosted a Memorial Day weekend celebration – The Annual Pig Roast & Fun Fly. At my house anticipation for this event begins early in the month of May. My husband and son have been members of The Trabuco Flyers for several years, but this year’s preparations for the Pig Roast included something different. My son’s plane was outfitted with several strips of LED lights. This year he wanted to do some night flying.

Camping begins on Friday night and the weekend’s festivities include the Warbird Flyby, some fabulous flying demos, night flying, lots of food, a huge raffle and of course the best roasted pig you’ve ever tasted!

Pilots of all ages gather to learn, practice and show off their skills. Novice pilots have an opportunity to try out the simulators before giving it a go with an experienced pilot on the buddy box. And everyone gets to enjoy the show!

It’s a great weekend for the whole family. This year was my family’s fifth year attending the event. And I think it’s safe to say we will be back again next year.

Trabuco Flyers, located in Trabuco Canyon, CA, was founded in 1991 and is a club for remote control aircraft enthusiasts to fly their RC planes and helicopters.  The club’s web site is http://trabucoflyers.com, and many club YouTube videos have been uploaded.

Individuals and families enjoy the camaraderie, flying, and facilities, which include a 465’ paved runway, five pilot stations, a covered flight line, and a club house.  The public is welcome to visit on weekends, and even to experience a free introductory flight (schedule in advance at the web site or by phone).  The public is also invited to club events, which include the annual Memorial Day Pig Roast and Camp Out, and an annual October Chili Cook Off.
