Living into the Mission

Recently, the High School youth group from Trabuco Presbyterian Church in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA left on their annual mission trip. This group of high school students volunteered their time and talents during their recent vacation and travelled for over 10 hours to the Navajo Nation in Ganado, Arizona to provide service for others. Under the leadership of Senior High School ministry director, Alison Jenkins, the 16 students and three volunteer leaders repaired buildings, fixed ceilings, and performed work on the grounds for six days.

During this particular trip, Trabuco Presbyterian Church mission trip collaborated with Ganado Presbyterian Church to meet the needs of their community. The High School students coordinated a Vacation Bible School for the children in the area, hosting games, crafts, and bible lessons, bringing joy and fun to the impoverished area. By repairing buildings in this area and developing programs for the community, this church will be able to further their ministries and fulfill their mission. Through this experience, the students were able to reveal their passion for helping others in need and become directly involved by placing them nearer those who need the help the most. The high school students worked hard to raise money through bake sales and restaurant fundraising nights throughout the year to fund the supplies needed for this trip.

Many of the youth voiced that this mission trip made an awesome impression on them, despite the very cold and dusty weather, knowing that all of their hard work was helping others in need. Some said that the interactions that they shared with the members of the Ganado community will forever remain in their memories and had the biggest impact. The journey allowed them in a tangible and significant way to experience and see first-hand  the power of their efforts.
