Celebrate Family and Friends Tonight at Central Park—It's Free

Annual New Year's Eve celebration of cityhood offers games, exhibits, arts and entertainment in an alcohol-free environment for families. The free event lasts from 5-9 p.m. Oh yeah, Patch will be there.

The Celebrating Family and Friends New Year's Eve event that celebrates Rancho Santa Margarita cityhood, takes place tonight at the Bell Tower Regional Community Center and Central Park.

It's an alcohol-free, family-friendly celebration featuring entertainment, visual arts, interactive art activities, games and food booths.

Included this year is a takeoff of the game show "Minute to Win It" called "You've Got One Minute" in which participants will be randomly selected from the audience and given a variety of challenges using household items.

The always popular magic show by Steve Spellman begins the festivities at 5 p.m. on a first-come first-serve basis. Dancers and musical entertainment by The 5150's are also part of the festivities, which continues through 9 p.m., providing families an opportunity to get home and ring in the new year privately.  Inflatables, games and crafts are also on the event menu, as is fare from local food vendors.

Booths, almost all offering games, crafts or something free, will be in the park representing local organizations and businesses, including Patch.

The mission of the annual event is to produce a safe and fun environment that brings the community together in an alcohol-free setting. It is intended to build community spirit and inspire hope for the future through the broadening and deepening public appreciation of the arts from our community. This event celebrates the arts in this community by providing space and opportunity to showcase local talents through music, dance and fine arts.

This celebration—which commemorates Rancho Santa Margarita’s anniversary of becoming an incorporated City on Jan. 1, 2000—features fun, varieties of food, a diverse array of live musical entertainment, performers from local performing arts organizations, inflatable rides, interactive crafts and games, and the popular Children’s Art Contest in which all local schools are able to participate and showcase their fine artists.
