Closed Overnight, Morning Delays on Ortega Highway

CalTrans warns that traffic fines can be doubled in construction zones, and there will be plenty of construction on the slow-going thoroughfare. Expect continued delays.

Continuing work to repair the Ortega Highway, more formally known as Highway 74, will keep the mountainous Orange-Riverside county connector route closed overnight between San Juan Capistrano and the Candy Store in Riverside County for about two more weeks, Caltrans announced Thursday.

At 8:30 tonight, June 2, the two-lane highway built in the 1930s will close in both directions, then reopen about 4:30 Friday morning, according to Caltrans. The work will continue overnight during the same hours in the upcoming days.

Caltrans will direct traffic around the work each day from 4:30 a.m. until about 8:30 a.m., and commuters traveling during those hours should expect 10-15 minute delays.
