Cox Collecting Christmas Gifts for Kids Who Do Homework

In a partnership with the Boys & Girls Club, students will be able to choose gifts for family members—if they do their homework.

As part of Cox Communications’ “Season of Giving,” Cox has partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley to collect gifts for Operation Holiday Homework, an afterschool program allowing students to "purchase" gifts for family members based on the amount of homework they complete.

As part of the program, Cox is collecting gifts donated to the program though Dec. 1. The public can drop off at one of six different Cox Solutions Stores throughout Orange County; the cable company is accepting unwrapped gifts for any age or gender. It will support an annual holiday shopping day for Boys & Girls Club members.

The Operation Holiday Homework program incentivizes Boys & Girls Club members to complete their homework, awarding points throughout the months of November and December to each club member who participates in homework hour each day.

The program will culminate with a two-day Operation Holiday Homework shopping event on Dec. 14 and 15. The event on Dec. 14 will take place at the Cox campus in Rancho Santa Margarita, where Cox employees will volunteer to help the children “shop” and wrap the gifts that they choose for their family members.

“We have a lot of members who do not have the opportunity to purchase holiday gifts for their family members and this is a way they can,” said James Littlejohn, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley.  “Not only is their homework being completed, but their grades and attendance at school are up and they feel like they are giving back to their families.”
