Fundraising gets a bump, volunteers' efforts are recalled, and Mackenzie Beck leads all scorers. Also, when Elvis ruled, Perry Como got the gold.

3. Mackenzie Beck of Santa Margarita Catholic scored three goals to in the Orange County Girls' All-Star Game at Ocean View High.

4. On this date in history, March 14, 1950, the FBI debuted its 10 Most Wanted list. In 1964, Jack Ruby was sentenced to death for the killing of JFK assassin Lee Harvey Oswald. In 1967, the body of JFK was moved from its original burial site to its permanent location. In 1922, the founder of company that built the heavy-duty Mack Truck died when his car collided with a trolley; the company was renamed after John "Jack" Mack posthumously. In 1958, Perry Como received the first gold record for "Catch a Falling Star"; Elvis had the third, with "Hard-Headed Woman." In 1980, a Polish Airlines jet crashed attempting to land in Warsaw, Poland, and killed 22 members of the U.S. Olympic boxing team.

5. Some big hitters were born on this date, including the late baseball all-star Kirby Puckett (1961), Dennis the Menace creator Hank Ketcham (1920), bandleader Les Brown (1912) and Albert Einstein (1879). Among the living are Billy Crystal (63),  Michael Caine and Quincy Jones (both 78).
