Grab 'n Go Kids Planner: Carnivals, Crafts and Celebrations

We've got five (mostly free) ways to keep your kids busy this summer and beat the heat.

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA LIBRARY CRAFTS

Where/When: , 30902 La Promesa, Rancho Santa Margarita. Monday, July 11, 2-4 p.m.

Why Go: Kids of all ages will enjoy making crafts relating to the summer reading program theme “One World, Many Stories.”

BUILD AND GROW WORKSHOP

Where/When: 30481 Avenida De Las Flores, Rancho Santa Margarita. Saturday, July 9, 10 a.m.

Why Go: At this workshop, kids can make an awesome tow truck; the kit includes stickers and a working tow hook.

OC GREAT PARK CELEBRATION

Where/When: OC Great Park, Sand Canyon and 5 freeway, Irvine. Saturday, July 9, 3-10 p.m.

Why Go: The whole family will want to join in on this fun event that includes stage entertainment, military exhibits, crafts, food, sports demos and clinics, cooking demos, a petting zoo, aerial performances and a fireworks finale at 9:30.

Pricing: FREE. Food available for a nominal fee.

SADDLEBACK CHURCH KIDS SUMMER EVENT

Where/When: , 1 Saddleback Parkway, Lake Forest. Wednesday, July 6, 7-9 p.m.

Why Go: Kids toddler age through 6th grade will enjoy the “Roadtrip…The Ride of Your Life” themed kids events at Saddleback Church this summer every Wednesday night through July. This week, grade school kids can get ready to be “slimed” as well as participate in a summer carnival that includes games, music and more. Kids ages 1 through kindergarten can participate in “Stay n Play” with their parents; older their kids can  have fun in a safe, organized environment while parents drop them off and head out for date night. Tickets can be purchased at the church ahead of time or on the eve of the event.

Pricing: $5 per child.

COLOR ME MINE KIDS DAYS

Where/When: , 22312 El Paseo Plaza Suite G, Rancho Santa Margarita. Wednesdays.

Why Go: Want to paint an ice cream cone? How about a cat, a rabbit or a football? At Color Me Mine, kids can let their imagination run wild when they create their own porcelain masterpiece. On Wednesdays, kids under 12 can create for just $4, a savings of 50 percent off the regular studio fee of $8. Does not include price of piece.

Pricing: $4 studio fee per child 12 and under on Wednesdays, plus price of piece (varies)
