Grab 'n Go Kids Planner: Free Bowling, Dance and Art

"Spring" into action this weekend with activities for the whole family. No need to break the bank; most of these events are completely free!

FREE DAY AT BOWERS KIDSEUM

Where/When: Bowers Kidseum, 1802 N Main Street, Santa Ana, CA 92706. Sunday, May 1, 11-4 p.m.

Why Go: Thanks to Target Corporation, kids can enjoy a unique, hands-on experience at this kids’ museum on the first Sunday of every month. An extension of the Bowers Museum in Downtown Santa Ana, this place is well worth the drive. The museum strives to engage young children in art and multi-cultural experiences throughout its exhibitions. Little ones will love dressing up like an Indian princess or a Mexican caballero, playing instruments from around the globe, trying on ethnic masks and listening to languages from all over the world. This weekend, they can also make cherry blossom collages in the art lab. What a perfect early Mother’s Day gift!

RANCHO DAYS FIESTA

Where/When: Heritage Hill Historic Park, 25151 Serrano Road, Lake Forest. Sunday, May 1, 11-3 p.m.

Why Go: Kids and adults alike will enjoy learning about the history of Saddleback Valley during this fun, annual cultural event. Music, entertainment , crafts, dance and first-person re-enactors are just a few of the highlights of this day. Go back in time and dip a candle, make an arrowhead and create a piñata of your own. This is a don’t-miss event for the whole family.

Pricing: $4 admission for adults; $3 per children.

ST. JOHN’S EPISCOPAL SCHOOL MOMMY AND ME GARDEN PARTY

Where/When: St. John’s Episcopal School, 30382 Via Con Dios, Rancho Santa Margarita. Tuesday, May 3, 8-10 a.m.

Why Go: Moms and children ages 2-5 are invited to enjoy activities, create crafts and play games in a morning of mom-dedication fun. This event is open to the public and mothers are encouraged to invite their friends. All activities are guided by highly qualified teachers in classrooms and the playground of St. John’s NAEYC-accredited facility.

Pricing: FREE

GREAT PARK IMAGINATION CELEBRATION

Where/When: Great Park of Irvine, Sand Canyon and the 5 freeway. Saturday, April 30, 1-4 p.m.

Why Go: Imagination Celebration is a fun event focusing on art and movement, geared toward school-aged children. Kids can get their body moving and their creativity flowing by participating in free dance lessons and a communal art masterpiece. They will have a chance to learn the basics of hip-hop dance and watch live performances by dance crews, then translate this activity into their hands by creating chalk art. A live chalk art demo will be available on site as well. Dance lessons are recommended for ages 6 and up, but family members of all ages will enjoy the performances at this exciting event.

KIDS BOWL FREE

Where/When: Irvine Lanes, 3415 Michelson, Irvine. Varying days and times.

Why Go: Go to kidsbowlfree.com and take advantage of the best deal in kids’ entertainment this spring and summer! Kids Bowl Free is a national program aimed at helping kids get active and get healthy. In its 4tyh year, it now has 850 bowling alleys participating around the country. Register on the website and begin receiving coupons for two games of free bowling every week. Many southern California bowling alleys are participating, so look for one nearest you. This program is good for children 15 and under.

Pricing: Bowling is FREE with coupons received from registering on website; standard shoe rental prices apply. Parents can bowl at a great price too when they sign up for the family pass at $24.95. See website for more details.
