Why Go: There will be all kinds of military hardware and soldiers from the city's adopted 2nd Battalion 5th Marines regiment, and at 11 a.m. will be a ceremony commemorating Sept. 11. It's a great opportunity to see what the military can do, and why they do it.

STORYTELLING AND ART WITH CURIOUS GEORGE
Where/When: Bowers Kidseum, 1802 N Main Street, Santa Ana. Friday, September 9. 11 a.m.
Why Go: Kids will love connecting with the beloved character Curious George during this fun and interactive event. Meet and greet Curious George and enjoy storytelling, music and creative art projects. Barnes and Noble has partnered with the museum for this special treat for kids age 2-6. Parents must be in attendance.
Pricing: $10/child member; $12/child non-member. $6/adult member; $8/adult non-member.
KIDS GARDEN WORKSHOP
Where/When: OC Great Park, Irvine. Sunday, September 11, 11-1 p.m.
Why Go: Kids of all ages will enjoy these educational workshops which run every half hour during the Farmer’s Market. They will learn about the food they eat, environmental stewardship, the history of agriculture in their community and what it takes to ensure a healthy future. This weekend, they can participate in Stone Soup: The Power of Working Together. They will learn about some amazing, tasty “cool” seasonal veggies and make paper pots at the end of the event.

TALL SHIPS FESTIVAL
Where/When: Ocean Institute at Dana Point. Friday, September 9 thru Sunday, September 11.
Why Go: This is a no-miss event for the whole family. Enjoy special live music, art, delicious food and more at the 27th annual Toshiba Tall Ships Festival. Kids will love being entertained by the Port Royal Privateers, seeing blacksmiths and scrimshaw artists at work and touring the tall ships as the crew talks about life at sea.
Pricing: $10/adult non-member; $8/adult member; $8/child non-member’ $6/child member.
DOLLAR MOVIES
Where/When: Woodbridge Movies 5, 4626 Barranca Parkway, Irvine. Daily show times vary.
Why Go: If you missed one of this summer’s hits, Zookeeper (rated PG, starring Kevin James) go see it for a fraction of the price you’d pay at the regular movie theater. Don’t forget your dollar hot dogs on the way in!
