Grab 'n Go Kids Planner: Street Fair, Concerts and Civil War Days

Labor Day weekend. It's the official last lazy days of summer. Check out our planner for five fun ways to spend it with your family.

ORANGE STREET FAIR

Where/When: Chapman and Glassell Street, Orange. Friday, September 2, 5-10 p.m., Saturday, September 3, 10-10 p.m. and Sunday, September 4, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.

Why Go:  For 39 years, Orange County residents have enjoyed the food, festivities and fun at the Orange Street Fair. This Labor Day weekend, the tradition lives on with live entertainment and a variety of food vendors, including kettle corn, barbecue beef sandwiches, root beer floats and Indian flat bread. Kids will enjoy Children’s Street, where they can find games, rock climbing and giant slides.

DOLLAR MOVIES

Where/When: Woodbridge Movies 5, 4626  Barranca Parkway, Irvine. Show times vary.

Why Go: Young children will enjoy seeing the new Winnie the Pooh movie (rated G) at a fraction of the regular movie theater price. Arrive early and grab a dollar hot dog, or mosey over to the candy store across the way for a treat before the show.

Pricing: $2 per person, $1 per person on Tuesdays. $4 per 3D movie.

END OF SUMMER CAMPOUT

Where/When: Etnies Skate Park, 20028 Lake Forest Drive, Lake Forest. Saturday, September 3. 10 p.m. to 9 a.m.

Why Go: This is the hottest party in town! Teens will have a blast at this overnight event that includes video game VIP lounge, battle in the joust pit, dinner, breakfast, drinks, snacks, candy and more. Sleeping bags and pillows are optional, as most kids never sleep; supervision is provided and kids are not allowed to leave until 9 a.m. the next morning.

Pricing: $45 per person.

CONCERT IN THE PARK

Where/When: Lantern Bay Park, 25111 Park Lantern Road, Dana Point. Monday, September 5,  1-4:30 p.m.

Why Go: Bring the kids and your blankets and enjoy the sounds of the popular local band Tijuana Dogs as you celebrate the last days of summer. The 5th Marine Regiment Support Group will be selling food and drinks to raise funds for Marines abroad, so bring your wallet and support a good cause.

Pricing: FREE concert, food and drink available for a nominal fee.

CIVIL WAR RE-ENACTMENT

Where/When: Central Park, 7111 Talbert Ave, Huntington Beach. Saturday, September 3 and Sunday, September 4. Battle times: Saturday, 1:30 pm and 4 pm. Sunday: 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Why Go: Jump start your kids’ history lessons this year. The Historical Society’s 18th Annual Civil War Days will feature live weapons demos, living histories and a heated battle re-enactment that will entertain kids of all ages.  Twenty minutes after each battle, Abraham Lincoln will read the famous Gettysburg Address. Refreshments will be available for sale; proceeds benefit the Huntington Beach Historical Society.

Pricing: FREE; food and drink available for a nominal fee.
