Why Go: Your kids will love exploring this real working farm, where they can hop on a wagon ride, tour the 3-acre strawberry fields and have a chance to pick their own fresh berries.

PRETEND CITY ST. PATRICK’S DAY EVENT

Where/When: 29 Hubble, Irvine. Wednesday, March 17,  10-5 p.m.

Why Go: Pretend City is a unique, hands on children’s museum offering one of a kind, tangible learning experiences. This week, kids can enjoy a special St. Patrick’s Day event, which includes a special End of the Rainbow Treasure Hunt and a visit from a leprechaun.

Pricing: $11/child, $11/adult admission. Infants 12 months and under are FREE.

GREAT PARK GARDENING CLASS

Where/When: Orange County Great Park at Sand Canyon and the 5 freeway. Saturday, March 19, 10 a.m. to noon.

Why Go: Kids age 9 and older will learn how to harvest their own vegetable garden during this special gardening class. Younger children can enjoy a ride on the carousel or a climb on the play structures nearby. Then, the whole family can take a ride on the Great Park Balloon, all for FREE!

GOAT HILL JUNCTION TRAIN RIDES

Where/When: Goat Hill Junction at Fairview Park at Placentia and Swan Drive, Costa Mesa. Saturday, March 19, 10-3 p.m.

Why Go: Every third Saturday of the month, the Orange County Model Engineers offer free train rides for the whole family. Children will love these miniature trains, which run through scenic fields on 5 miles of track. A snack bar with cool drinks and treats is available on site; children must be able to sit up alone to ride.

PARENTING OC JAMBOREE

Where/When:  Camp James, 8790 Irvine Center Drive, Irvine. Saturday, March 19, 10-4 p.m.

Why Go: This special event, sponsored by Parenting OC magazine, is one you won’t want to miss. Children can enjoy free rides, performances, contests and food while parents  educate themselves on this summer’s activities, health, safety, family travel and more. Don’t forget to enter the Cute Kid Contest and the Kids Spelling Bee. Characters from the new movie “Hop” will make a special appearance.

Pricing: FREE. Food available for a fee.
