Light Sentence, Light Crime, and 'Louie Louie'

Parole could come this week after serving two years for involuntary manslaughter. Also, a light Police Blotter, and Louie Louie Day.

1. The man who confessed to killing 19-year-old Donna Jou, a Rancho Santa Margarita woman, will be paroled from prison on April 15, according to the woman's father. John Steven Burgess, a convicted sex offender, admitted in 2009 to giving Jou a lethal combination of cocaine, heroin and alcohol during a party; in his plea agreement, in which he would only serve five years in prison, he confessed to involuntary manslaughter and concealing an accidental death. If he is released on Friday, he will have served a little less than 23 months. Look for the story later today on Patch.

4. On this day in history, April 11, 1814, French emporor Napolean Bonaparte abdicated his throne and was exiled to the Mediterranean island of Elba. In 1951, President Harry S. Truman relieved Gen. Douglas MacArthur of his duties in Korea for fear of creating WWIII involving China. In 1970, the third lunar landing mission launched with Apollo 13. In 1979, Ugandan dictator Idi Amin, with more than 300,000 deaths attributed to his eight-year regime, was overthrown. In 1961, Bob Dylan, just 19 and too young to obtain his union and cabaret license,  plays his first major gig—Gerde's Folk City in NYC opening for John Lee Hooker. In 1988, Cher won a best actress Oscar for Moonstruck. In 2004, after nearly 12 years as a professional and finishing second or third eight times in a major, Phil Mickelson finally won his first—the Masters.

5. Ethel Kennedy, the widow of Robert Kennedy, is 83 today. Others celebrating birthdays today are Joel Grey (79), Louise Lasser (71), Meshach Taylor (64) and Joss Stone (24). Others include the late Oleg Cassini (1913), who was the designer for first lady Jacqueline Kennedy.
