Mission Hospital's First Baby of Year Named After Greek God

The proud parents go for the gold when it comes to naming their baby boy.

The kid better be something special. The first baby born in 2012 at Mission Hospital was a healthy boy born in the early morning hours of Jan. 1.

Though he wasn't the first baby born in Orange County, he has been given a name that stands above all others: Zeus, who is more commonly known in the Greek as the father of gods and men.

Zeus Altamirano came into the world at 2:56 a.m., at the Mission Viejo hospital that serves much of south Orange County. He weighed 7 pounds 12 ounces and measured 19 1/2 inches.

His parents are Carmen Rosa, 24, and Louis Altamirano, 28, of Mission Viejo.

A list of the top 100 baby names of 2011 was released last month, but Zeus wasn't on it. Neither was Thor, Apollo or any Greek gods.

Zeus' older siblings have far more pedestrian names: Kimberly, who's 5, and Louis, who's 4.

As for the outfit that he's wearing for his first media photo? Stitched into the cap are the words "Little Champ."

He's named like one.
