Patch Picks: Best Ways to Celebrate Grads and Food

It's that time of year again. Whether you've got a junior high or a college grad in your life, celebrate their achievement with one of these local places.

Junior High Grad:

22431 Antonio Parkway, Suite B-110, Rancho Santa Margarita

Anyone with a teenager in the house knows this: they eat a lot. And what better place to let them have at it than at your local sports themed pizza parlor, Ballpark Pizza? Celebrate their milestone with the June family special, which includes a large  2-topping pizza, pitcher of soda, and an appetizer (10 wings or 10 mozzarella sticks or a large salad), all for the low price of $24. If your grad is feeling especially adventurous (and hungry!) they can sign up for the Man Vs. Food Challenge and try to win cash by eating an entire extra large cheese pizza. Top off the evening with a Dippin’ Dots dessert and let them work off their meal with a few rounds of video games. Ballpark is the perfect place to host a party; reserve the Football, Baseball, Golf or Soccer room by calling today. Reservations are not taken on Friday nights.

Before your ship your grad off to college to live off of Top Ramen and cheap pizza, give them one last (semi) healthy treat. Choose from one of Edible Creations’ unique fruit arrangements, like the Grad Celebration Dipped Bananas, starting at $77. This arrangement includes delicious gourmet chocolate dipped daisies, stars, strawberries, cantaloupes, honeydew and fresh bananas, all hand dipped in a combo of white and semi-sweet chocolate and all resting perfectly in a decorative ceramic “grad” piece. This gift won’t last long, but it won’t soon be forgotten, either.

College Grad:

29082 Tijeras Creek, Rancho Santa Margarita

Your grad is back from college with a diploma in hand and possibly with a couple extra pounds and a few loads of dirty laundry as well. What better place to celebrate their grown up adventure than at Tijeras Creek Golf Club? Tijeras Creek is one of southern California’s most beautiful courses; dotted with shimmering water, sycamore and oak trees, its 16th hole was named one of OC’s Best 18 Holes by membersof the Southern California PGA. But if this 18-hole course doesn’t impress your grad, maybe the TJ’s Cantina will. This Spanish mission-style clubhouse boasts some of the best grub around and is a perfect way to kick off a twilight golf session. Start off with an appetizer with an amusing name like Back Nine Nachos or Double Trouble chips and salsa, then move on to something heartier, like the Club House Sandwich with fresh avocado. If your grad is in the mood to reminisce about his dorm food days, suggest the Street Cart Hog Dog, wrapped in bacon and served in a warm toasted bun with pico de gallo, hot sauce, ketchup and mustard.
