SoCal Edison Pins Blackout on Cable

Power was restored to all but one customer within about two hours.

Southern California Edison blamed an underground cable failure for the power outage that left 1,395 customers in the dark earlier this week.

According to spokesperson Lauren Bartlett, the outage occurred Monday, 8:43 p.m., and power returned at 9:39 p.m. She said full service was restored to all but one customer by 10:45 p.m.

The customer was the Trabuco Canyon Water District, which was running on its own emergency power. The TCWD administration building had its power restored Tuesday, about noon, and had power restored to a pumping station late Tuesday night.

"From the perspective of our customers, they had full water and sewage throughout the blackout," said Hector Ruiz, general manger at the Trabuco Canyon Water District.

Ruiz said there was an additional brief outage at the administration offices late Tuesday; it turned off off all the power to the computer workstations.

Bartlett said the outage covered Santa Margarita Parkway to the west, Las Flores to the north, Bell Canyon to the east and Barneburg to the south.
