Thunderstorm Hits Rancho Santa Margarita Before Patriot Day Celebration

Hail and heavy rain hit the area. Likely to clear up tonight.

Thunderstorms are forecast throughout the day in Rancho Santa Margarita with likely clearing tonight, according to The Weather Channel.

A storm cell hit RSM before 9:30 a.m., in advance of the city's Patriot Day celebration in which the 2nd Battalion 5th Marines regiment are to display military hardware and the city pays tribute to the armed forces and those affected by the Sept. 11, 2001  terror attacks.

The Patriot Day celebration begins at 10 a.m., with a formal ceremony set to begin at 11 a.m. Among those who are expected to attend are the family of Cpl. Jordan Stanton, who was killed in Afghanistan in March.

There was a 30 percent chance of rain for today. There is a 20 percent chance of rain tonight, with a stray thunderstorm possible through the evening. It is expected to be partly cloudy on Sunday.
