Key to Awesomeness: If there’s one thing Alex Burge knows well, it’s the game of soccer. He got his first taste of the game playing for AYSO in the Under 6 division. In the U9 division, he tried his hand at goalie and found he enjoyed the position. He made All Stars that year, as well as the following two years for the U10 and U11 Allstars division. In U11, he took the game a step further and joined the Elite Soccer league while continuing with AYSO.

Alex switched to the Laguna Niguel soccer club, where his team placed first in the bronze level. For the U14 level, he joined the Pateadores club team; this team is larger and has more connections to colleges. Currently, he is playing his third year with the Pateadores in U16. He has been doing goalie training with Cerritos College coach Chris Lekavich for four years.  Alex admits that club soccer is a commitment, but well worth it if one wants to take their soccer career to the college level and beyond.

Last year, Alex impressed coaches and teammates alike when he played goalie for the Trabuco Hills High School frosh/soph soccer team. He plans to play AYSO for Team Element in the U16 division this fall and hopefully continue to improve his goalie skills.

For his dedication to the game of soccer in AYSO, club level and on the high school team, Alex Burge is this week’s Whiz Kid.
