Key to Awesomeness: Kayla Bui, a second-year teacher at Citrus High School near Perris, CA, was astonished to see such a different world just a couple hours away from the comfortable south Orange County area she grew up in. As Thanksgiving approached, she and her sister Jordan and their friends began brainstorming ways they could help families in need. They partnered with Tesoro High School’s National Honor Society, of which Jordan is a part, and put together a plan to compile several Thanksgiving meals for families at Kayla’s school. Kayla contacted the guidance counselor at Citrus High School, who identified 11 needy families. Several Tesoro parents donated money to allow them to purchase one frozen turkey to go with each meal. Last Friday morning, they completed their mission when they delivered these meals to the grateful families.

Jordan is a senior at Tesoro and enjoys owning, caring for and riding her horse, which she boards at a local stable. She plans to be an equine veterinarian when she finishes school and has shadowed an equine vet to gain hands-on experience in the field. She is currently looking at various colleges, including Cornell University and Colorado State.
