St. Baldrick's (Head-shaving event to conquer kids cancer)

Today is the day to shave the way to conquering kids cancer!  Register as a shavee or come cheer on the community and teams from Wagon Wheel Elementary School, Las Flores Middle School, Pack 717, Troop 918, Trabuco Canyon Little League, OC Firefighters, OC Business Council, Selma's Pizzeria, Hanna's Restaurant and more.

St. Baldrick’s Foundation began as a challenge among friends and has grown into the world’s largest volunteer-driven fundraising event for childhood cancer research. Because the treatment typically given causes patients hair to fall out, volunteers are recruited to shave their heads to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer in return for pledges of financial support.

The event has grown tremendously each year.  Since its inception in 2000, over 145,000 volunteers had their heads shaved at more than 3,200 St. Baldrick’s events held across the U.S. and beyond, raising over $90 million for childhood cancer research.

The first Orange County St. Baldrick's event began in Rancho Santa Margarita in 2008 with 61 shavees and raised over $25,000.  By 2010, the RSM event hosted 315 shavees and raised $111,479.00!  This event has also strengthened the community and provided an opportunity for school-age children to learn and be a part of making a difference.  Our 2011 goal is to raise $200,000+ and shave 500 heads!
