Tesoro Marching Band Tours Northern California

During spring break, the group performs on the steps of the state Capitol and at Six Flags in Vallejo.

Spring break gave members of the Tesoro High marching band and color guard a chance to perform at two Northern California spots and take in a little sightseeing as well.

The band, under the direction of Andy Magana and Cathy Olinger, performed at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo on April 2, the second day of a five-day tour.

The next day was spent exploring Alcatraz island and Pier 39, and on April 4, the students performed on the steps of the state Capitol in Sacramento.

The park performance began with an opening ceremony in the main area of the park, followed by a march and several standstill arc concerts throughout the park.

In Sacramento, Assemblyman Jeff Miller (R-Mission Viejo) welcomed the students and arranged for them to tour the Capitol building after their performance.

The Capitol performance included “Stars and Stripes Forever” and “The Washington Post” by John Philip Sousa; “Clarinet Marmalade” and “Jazz Interlude”; and several pep songs from the football season. Eight members of the school’s orchestra, who had come to perform with the band, gave a short recital.
