Orange County Sheriff deputies received a call Saturday night in response to a potential jumper off the Santa Margarita Parkway Bridge.

Two deputies arrived on the scene within five minutes of being dispatched and made contact with a male, who an informant said was about 20 years old and wearing dark clothing. He was sitting on the railing on the eastbound side of the bridge facing the roadway. As other officers arrived, the original responding deputies coaxed the man away from the railing.

"We went out and had a conversation with him," Lt. Andy Ferguson said. "He came off the railing."

The man was taken to Mission Hospital where he self-admitted for observation.

Ferguson said a sergeant and four deputies responded to the incident, which took place on the Alicia Avenue end of the bridge.

The call was made at 9:35 p.m.

According to an officer at the scene, the whole incident took less than 10 minutes for deputies to bring to a conclusion.
