Updated: At TGI Friday's, Last Call Really Means Last Call

Editor's Note: A sign in the window early Sunday evening said that TGI Friday's will be open Monday, May 16, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at which point it will close for good.

It is open to debate whether TGI Friday's is a dining institution in Rancho Santa Margarita such as Tutto Fresco, Ballpark Pizza or Hanna's  What's not open, after Sunday, is TGIF's.

The venerable , a red and white hallmark on El Paseo for years that was one of the few to provide late-night dining, is shutting its doors. When it rings the bell for the final time, it will make way for a BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse that hopes to open as soon as possible.

The BJ's will be about 1,000 square feet bigger. BJ's is based in Huntington Beach, and will employ about 200 people.

TGIF's impending departure , although it at the time.  The bottom line, though, is if you want to say your goodbyes, today's the day.
