Crown Books Opens New Chapter In Old Borders Storefront

Residents who lamented losing a bookstore can take heart: Crown Books will fill the void in the community beginning Tuesday in Rancho Santa Margarita.

Patch asked the question a few months ago what in the storefront that used to be occupied by Borders Books .

Plenty of people wanted another bookstore.

. Employees were busy Sunday stocking books—real, honest-to-goodness books with pages that turn rather than are clicked—in anticipation of a Tuesday opening.

Ward Albright, the operations manager for A&S Booksellers, the company doing business as Crown Books, said the store could open on Monday if it had to, but the extra day will give it a chance to tie up loose ends for owner Andy Weiss of San Diego.

Albright said the discount bookseller doesn't stock bestsellers, but prices are often half what stocked books might be at major chains. Check the video to hear Albright discuss the business, his relations with the city to get the store open, and the difference between Crown, its competitors and the way the book business has changed.

Store hours will be 10-9 on weekdays and Saturday, 11-7 on Sunday.
