Police Blotter: Woman Comes Home to a Very Empty Apartment

Also, animal issues among neighbors and a runaway dumpster.

A woman arrived at her Las Flores apartment Sunday morning to find that someone had removed everything from her apartment. All her worldly possessions—poof! And no sign of David Copperfield.

The apartment is located in the Archstone Apartments complex. 

According to the woman, who had paperwork showing that she wasn’t due to vacate the apartment until September 1, a representative from the Archstone management team admitted the mistake and assured her that they would fully compensate her for her loss.

In a desperate attempt to salvage some of her belongings, the woman searched all of the dumpsters in the complex but could not locate her possessions. Alas, the trash man had come and gone.

According to the woman, the management team told her to return to the leasing office after the weekend to discuss the matter further. Deputies advised her that this was a civil case, but recorded her call.

The call came in around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, from the 1200 block of Sable.

Woman throws “gifts” for her neighbor’s dogs into her yard

A Rancho Santa Margarita woman said her neighbor was throwing bones and blankets into her backyard Friday afternoon. According to the woman, the neighbor had been leaving her harassing notes telling her that she was not taking care of her animals. Apparently, the items being thrown into her yard were gifts for the woman's dogs.

The call came in around 2:15 p.m. on Friday, from the 100 block of Pasto Rico.

German shepherd jumps into man’s yard, attacks his dog

A distraught man said a large german shepherd jumped over the fence of his Rancho Santa Margarita home Monday evening. According to the man, his own dog was attacked in the yard by the canine. Animal Control Services was on their way to the scene.

The call came in around 7 p.m. on Monday, from Santa Catrina.

Dumpster rolls downhill, lands in front of man’s home

A man said a large dumpster rolled down a hill and landed on the curb in front of his Rancho Santa Margarita residence Friday evening. The man was concerned that the dumpster would become a safety hazard. He tried to contact the company that owns the dumpster, but was informed that they were closed until Monday.

The call came in around 8 p.m. on Friday, from San Sebastian.

The following is a summary report of calls from Rancho Santa Margarita, Coto de Caza, Trabuco Canyon and Las Flores to the Orange County Sheriff's Department from August 19 to August 22.

Petty Theft 6:09 p.m. Monday, 22300 block of Avenida de las Flores. A man said his mountain bike had been stolen.

Family Dispute 5:12 p.m. Monday, on Oakbrook. A woman said her 27-year-old son and his girlfriend were in an argument, which turned physical. When deputies arrived, the woman said the couple had left. They found the son at a nearby Shell station; he told them that the fight had been verbal only.

Disturbance 12:07 p.m. Monday, on Charleston Lane. A man said his wife was throwing things at him.

Drunk in Public 4:34 a.m. Monday, 22400 block of Alma Aldea. A woman said an intoxicated man was outside her window asking her to go on a date with him.

Disturbance—Music or Party 7:36 p.m. Sunday, 32100 block of Rancho Cielo. A man said there was a loud party happening somewhere in Dove Canyon.

Traffic Accident 5:57 p.m. Sunday, on Alicia Parkway and Santa Margarita Parkway. An informant said a blue Chevrolet and a gray sedan were involved in an accident. According to the caller, the driver of the blue Chevrolet was driving erratically. Deputies arrived and arrested the driver, a 43-year-old man, who had a blood-alcohol level greater than the legal limit. He was cited and released from the Intake Release Center.

Disturbance 4:37 p.m. Sunday, 22700 block of El Prado. A caller said a group of people were drinking at her community pool. Deputies determined that all of the subjects were over 21, and advised them not to drink by the pool.

Traffic Hazard 8:40 a.m. Sunday, on Santa Margarita Parkway and Avenida de las Flores. A man said a five-gallon drum fell out of the back of a pickup truck. The man thought the drum contained gasoline.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 9:26 p.m. Saturday, on Aliento. A man said an unfamiliar man, wearing a Raiders t-shirt and purple shorts, walked into his house uninvited. The man went outside when the caller said he was going to call the police.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 7:29 p.m. Saturday, on Antonio Parkway and Oso Parkway. An informant saw a youth walk toward the back entrance of Las Flores Middle School, carrying a can of spray paint. Deputies were unable to find the boy.

Disturbance—Music or Party 5:57 p.m. Saturday, on Las Castanetas. A caller heard a loud party with a live band somewhere on his street.

Suspicious Person in Vehicle 5:30 p.m. Saturday, 22300 block of Antonio Parkway. Deputies arrested a 48-year-old woman from Huntington Beach who had an outstanding warrant for her arrest. She was released after posting bond from the Intake Release Center.

Disturbance 6:55 p.m. Friday, 30400 block of Avenida de las Flores. A caller said a group of youths were hitting vehicles with their skateboards and scooters in the Lowe's parking lot.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 6:42 p.m. Friday, 22700 block of El Prado. A woman said she found a box of toys on her front porch, and the screens to her windows were bent. The woman said her sister-in-law has been harassing her, and thinks the toys came from her.

Drunk in Public 4:23 p.m. Friday, 21500 block of Plano Trabuco Road. A caller said a man was drinking beer in front of CVS.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 3:15 p.m. Friday, 30600 block of Santa Margarita Parkway. A caller said a pregnant woman with a 1-year-old child was panhandling in the Trader Joe’s parking lot.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 6:40 a.m. Friday, 21300 block of Avenida de las Flores. A caller said two men were camping out on the playground of Trabuco Mesa Elementary school.

Disturbance 6:25 a.m. Friday, 300 block of Sable. A caller from Archstone Apartments said that several painters were starting work too early and being very loud. Deputies were unable to locate the painters.

Petty Theft 2:42 a.m. Friday, on Via Puma. A man said two youths had just gone went through his vehicle. The man called back and said the two suspects dropped a GPS and an empty purse when he confronted them. The boys ran into O’Neill Park.

Traffic Stop 2:26 a.m. Friday, on Avenida de las Flores and Via Serena. Deputies arrested Damien Evan Grall, 37, who was being held without bail at Central Mens Jal. According to court records, Grall has had 13 brushes with the law since 2000, many of them driving-related. He was arrested for suspicon of driving under the influence of alcohol, and driving with a suspended or revoked license because of DUI. Of the latter, he has been found guilty twice previously since 2000.

Disturbance 2:15 a.m. Friday, on Via Amistosa. A caller wanted deputies to look for a man who was walking around the complex yelling profanities and telling people he was going to kill someone. Deputies arrested Jose Vicente Dominguez, 38, who had a warrant for his arrest.

Traffic Stop 1:08 a.m. Friday, on Avenida de las Flores and Avenida de las Banderas. Deputies arrested a 20-year-old man, who was cited and released from the Intake Release Center.
