Toll Road Officials to Revive 241 Extension Plans

The Foothill/Eastern Transportation Corridor Agency will ask the water board to reconsider its permit for the 5.5 mile extension of the 241.

Officials with the 241 toll road will revive a plan to extend the road by 5.5 miles toward San Juan Capistrano.

According to the Orange County Register, toll road directors voted to appeal the water board’s denial of a permit that would have allowed for the extension.

“We weren't, obviously, pleased with the result," said Lisa Bartlett, chairwoman of the Foothill/Eastern Transportation Corridor Agency, according to the newspaper.

In June, the San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board denied the permit with board members saying the proposed extension was really a fraction of a larger effort to extend the road further into environmentally sensitive coastal habitat. Claiming they did not want to approve the project piecemeal, the board rejected the 5.5 mile Tesoro Extension toward San Juan Capistrano.

“The environmental impacts for the entire project have not been evaluated,” Board member Sharon Kalemkiarian said at the time.
