Wanna Run for Rancho Santa Margarita City Council? Here Are the Deadlines

You can start pulling nominating papers as early as Monday.

November 2014 Statewide General Calendar:

  • July 14: Nomination papers/declaration of candidacy commences
  • Aug. 8: Last day to file nomination papers/declaration of candidacy
  • Aug. 13: 5-day extension if incumbent does not file
  • Sept. 25: Mailing of sample ballot pamphlets (approximate date)
  • Oct. 6: First day vote-by-mail ballots are available and 29-day close of registration
  • Oct. 20: Final close of registration
  • Oct. 28: Last day to apply for a vote-by-mail ballot
  • Nov. 4: Date of election


Interested in serving on the City Council? The following requirements must be met:

  • Citizen of the United States
  • Registered voter and resident of the city of Rancho Santa Margarita
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Eligible to take the oath of office and be able to be bonded in the amounts provided for by statute
