Dear Editor,

Please run the following announcement and if possible put it in your ongoing community calendar. Thanks so much.

Mapes Memorial Scheduled

Rancho Santa Margarita Friends of the Library has scheduled a special memorial tribute to founding member Jeff Mapes for Saturday, September 29, 2 to 3 p.m, in the RSM Library Community Room.

Mapes, who was born in Manhattan on July 20, 1916, graduated from Amherst College in 1938 and attended Cornell Medical School for one year before joining the U.S. Army to serve as a medic in World War II. He moved to California in 1978 to work for Kodak Corporation.  After retiring to Coto de Caza with his wife Peg, he was the leader of a group of library supporters who formed RSM Friends of the Library 16 years ago. He continued to work with the group throughout his life. He died in April at the age of 94 almost a year to the day after the death of his wife, Peg. Friends and neighbors are invited to join his colleagues at Friends of the Library for the special tribute.
