From the Mayor: Patriot Day Concert, Commemoration on Sunday

Patriot Day will be much different this year than it has in the past; activities include the final summer concert of the season in Central Park.

By Tony Beall, Mayor of Rancho Santa Margarita

Summer in Rancho Santa Margarita will come to a close on September 15th with a heartfelt finale to our Summer Concert series— a “red, white and blue” tribute to follow our annual Patriot Day Commemoration.  Join us as we honor and remember those who lost their lives on 9/11, recognize our many veterans, and meet our adopted 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines Regiment (2/5) as we commemorate those that have served and continue to serve our nation.  A variety of activities are planned to show our appreciation for our freedom:

Beginning at 2 p.m., an entire afternoon and early evening will be dedicated to the City’s Annual Patriot Day Event.  Our adopted 2/5 marines will present a static display of military equipment and vehicles that draws young and old alike.  Residents will have a unique opportunity to meet the brave and dedicated members of our 2/5 and to thank them for their ongoing service to our country.

• Cross Fit Challenge.  Challenge a member of our adopted 2/5 or test your own abilities in this fun and active exercise of strength, stamina and endurance.
• Gourmet Food Trucks and local vendors available for lunch and dinner.  Join your neighbors, family and friends as we picnic together and enjoy a variety of options available from unique and popular gourmet food trucks that will be available during the event.  There is also the chance to enjoy this culinary experience with the members of our adopted 2/5 battalion.

• Concert and Patriot Day Commemoration.  Join our local boy and girl scouts, our local veterans including Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the community as we commemorate those who lost their lives on 9/11 and thank and honor those who served or continue to serve our country.  Additionally, Patriot Day Essay Contest Winners will be announced.  Throughout summer break, local students were encouraged to get involved in our Patriot Day observance by submitting an essay with the theme, “Why it is important to honor and observe Patriot Day as a national day of service and remembrance?”  Winners will read their award winning essays as part of the commemorative ceremony.

Last Summer Concert.  Finally, the afternoon will culminate with a spectacular free and final summer concert.  Wear your red, white and blue and join us for our last summer concert of the season.  Bring your blankets and chairs, visit our food trucks or bring a picnic, and join the adopted 2/5, friends and neighbors for our final concert of the season.
