Merry Christmas

Christmas is a time of joy and thanksgiving. There are two great miracles worth remembering this time each year.

I want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas.  There is so much for which we can be thankful.  The Spectator has reported 2012 was the best year ever.  They report, “Never in the history of the world has there been, less hunger, less disease and more prosperity.”    I do understand the difference between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but I have always considered this a time of year to give thanks.  The Spectator article reinforces my view.

First, I’m thankful for the birth of Jesus Christ. The miracle of the birth, life, death and rising of Jesus changed the path of mankind.  In a world so violent, modern day man cannot imagine the suffering; Christianity started the world on a path that leads us to the relatively peaceful world we now enjoy.  The journey was neither easy nor perfect, but the results are a blessing.

In a world that was once ruled by Kings and Warlords, we have come to understand, it is neither man, nor King that gives people their rights.  Our rights, as humans, are God given and no person or government has a right to infringe on these rights.

Many people do not have the faith to believe in a greater power and that is fine. Whatever your beliefs, we can learn from the knowledge gained through the life and death of Jesus, and know there is a greater power than any human ruler or any government.  For this I am thankful and it makes Christmas all the more special.

The second thing, is the miracle of the Constitution. Yes, I know the difference between the 4th of July and Christmas.  But the Constitution is the second miracle that makes our lives so much better than any time in history.

The founding fathers of this country had a strong belief in God.  I’ve heard the discussions about how there were Deists and Agnostics, but the proof is in the final product.  This “Republic……..one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all” has risen to power following the belief of a higher power protecting and leading us.  This led the U.S. to becoming the protector of human rights around the globe.  It is sad to think about the world without the power and benevolence of the United States.

This great country has set itself apart by providing freedom of religion to each group of immigrants throughout our history.  It was not the freedom from religion that attracted so many people to flee their countries and come here; it was the freedom of religion.

So this is a special time of year for my family and me.  It will be one of the few times this year we can all be in the same location at the same time.  Looking at
this group of young adults and their zest for life will provide more memories
of a family allowed to grow, prosper and love in the greatest country on earth.

Merry Christmas and May God protect you and your families in this special time of
year.
