The Gang of 8 and Reform

The gang of 8 has a new immigration bill. Let's guess what happens next.

The gang of 8 introduced a new Immigration Bill. A quick check by several news organizations reveal it is over 800 pages. Does this seem familiar?

Obamacare has been a disgrace. Unintended consequences permeate the entire bill. Yet, only three years later and we are starting this same process of sending over a massive bill, limiting the time to read it, and then trying to pass something to solve a politically created problem.

Here are a couple guesses of what happens next. First, there will be a number of unintended consequences. By allowing family members to follow their family, we will get an extended definition of family. Not only will it include aunts, uncles and their extended families, it will include those convicted felons who would normally be banned.

There will be confusion about proof of residency. First, unable to decide exactly what documentation is fair, the acceptable documents list will expand with time. Second and better yet, fraud will become rampant. The good thing about that is money will change hands for the forged documents used to prove residency.

Our already severely overloaded social safety net will expand beyond capacity. There will be an increased demand for social services resulting in a growing government and expansion of government benefit payments. The left will ridicule the right for being selfish and trying to starve poor children. Two trillion dollars a year will be added to the budget to “patch” the safety net.

Our already stretched medical care system will break down under the increased use. Bureaucrats understanding something must be done will come up with a plan to ration health care. It will not be called rationing; it will be called “Critical examination and proper allotment of scarce public assets for basic care.” Rich people will be able to avoid this program; the elderly will not and will suffer. Why the elderly, because we’ve already heard in the discussions on Obamacare that the elderly offer a lower return for the investment of public monies on health care. First, Congress and its employees will get an exemption from the program and then two trillion dollars a year will be added to the budget for increased well care due to “unexpected population growth.”

The influx of low skilled people in a slow growing economy will result in an increase in crime. Since our prisons are already overcrowded there will be an extension of the new “catch and release program.” You know about the “catch and release program,” where they put ankle bracelets on people and release them into society. State Officials will express shock and dismay that people commit crimes while wearing the bracelets. There will be a call for more investment in infrastructure including prisons. A two trillion dollar program will be announced to correct this problem with repeat criminals.

The increase in immigration will showcase the shortage of low cost housing. Banks will reject the idea of providing financing for unemployed/underemployed people to purchase homes. The State/Federal governments will step in with a two trillion dollar guarantee for low cost housing construction. This will further be justified as a means of providing more “good paying jobs.” All memory of a previous attempt to do the same thing will be discouraged by the press. This time it will be different is the lead story.

Tax receipts will reach a new high of over two trillion dollars a year. However, the number of people actually paying taxes will drop from 47% to 41% and will increase the deficit for the foreseeable future. The money to make up this increased deficit will be taken from a new tax on IRA/401k/deferred income retirement plans. In addition President Obama’s previous program to limit retirement plans to three million dollars will be seen as unfair to the poor, and the amount will be decreased to 1.5 million maximum. Those mostly elderly radicals who complain of the sacrifices they made to save this much money will be given a copy of Hillary Clinton's It Takes A Village. Several Democratic Congressmen will introduce bills requiring those complaining about the higher taxes to appear before a local commission to explain their selfish behavior.

Yep, we didn’t learn with Obamacare. So now, we try it again. I ask again, does it make sense to pass a bill too long to be read easily? How many unintended consequences does it take to understand these bills create unanticipated results? Sorry Speaker Nancy, I didn’t mean to be snarky.
