You Need Help Raising Your Children

We have never invested as much in public education as we should have because we’ve always had kind of a private notion of children. Your kid is yours and totally your responsibility. We haven’t had a very collective notion of these are our children. So part of it is we have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families and recognize that kids belong to whole communities.

Here at last Ms. Melissa Harris-Perry steps forward and lets the cat out of the bag. The Left in this country does not believe you have the right to determine what is best for your children. Taking a page from Hilary Clinton’s It Takes a Village, Ms. Harris-Perry comes out and tells the truth. Telling the truth can be dangerous since it alerts people not previously paying attention to the left wing political thought. What do you think of this idea? Should the “Collective” determine what is best for your children? Consider all the decisions made when raising a child and consider the government would like a veto vote in these decisions. Is this okay with you?

There should be a serious discussion in this country as to the role of government. It is amazing how many people now feel the government has a higher knowledge of appropriate actions required by citizens. Every time we as citizens abdicate our rights, the government races to fill the gap. I recently read a quote attributed to Edwin Feulner of the Heritage Foundation who said, early in his career, he had to choose between equality and liberty. He chooses liberty. The time has come for us to have a serious discussion on which we choose.

Look to Western Europe to see the direction the Left wants. Western Europe is broke, their traditions and cultures are being discarded. The EU controls their currency and the United Nations is playing an increasingly large role in everything from Climate Change to the military. Is Western Europe the direction we want?

The Left is very clever about keeping its agenda under wraps. It is not often someone like Harris-Perry slips up and gives away the goals regarding any particular subject. Let’s have a discussion of the role of our government. Let the Left be clear on what they plan for our medical system, our military, our social welfare nets and our individual freedoms.

Here is an example of clarity. The Left told us they wanted to make health care available for everyone and reduce the costs. To make this happen they passed, on a party line only basis, health care reform. We now know the health insurance will cost more, decrease the quality of care, have fewer doctors and still leave as many people uninsured as before the bill was passed.

The next step will be single payer. Why do I think so—because President Obama told a labor union meeting that it would take another 10 years to reach his final goal of single payer healthcare? If single payer is so good, let’s discuss it, flush out the details and make a decision.

Why can’t the Left just say they hate the American system of health care and want a system paid by taxes and run by the government? Because the Left can only pass its agenda using stealth methods. Once its agendas are open to review the American people reject them. People don’t want the government raising their children. People are against being told what size soda they can drink. People don’t want their guns taken away and they don’t want a DMV type organization running health care.

We need a National Debate on the actual goals of each political party. Neither party has a clean record on transparency. Only this time, there should be sanctions on those who mislead the public. This will require us to address the issue of an independent press. While that is a discussion for another time, it should be clear our press is now aligned along political lines. The truth is like the sun, it lights the way. So, who do you trust more, the collective or your own family?
