It Takes Courage to Stand for Freedom

Recently there was a television feature on Army Staff Sergeant Clinton Romesha receiving the Congressional Medal of Honor.  S/Sgt. Romesha was at Combat Outpost Keating, deep in Afghanistan, when it was attacked by a large enemy force. The outpost was overrun by enemy combatants who actually got inside the compound.  Staff Sgt. Romesha took charge and helped save the majority of his men.  The Valor and the strength of this man was amazing. It reminded me of the history of courage in America.

Most of us will never be called upon to face such physical danger.  Yet, we see, almost daily, acts of courage by Americans standing up to attacks on our way of life.  Why are we being attacked?  The attack on our society is by those who would change us from a country with individual freedoms, to a country with a “soft” socialist style collective.  The Politically Correct stand ready to attack any person who stands for individual responsibility and the resultant freedoms which made this Country so successful.  It takes courage to face such attacks and stand up for what you believe.

Personal responsibility has been replaced by statements such as, “it’s not your fault.”  It is not your fault you are on welfare, there are no jobs.  It is not your fault you are out of a job, it is the fault of the greedy rich.  It is not your fault you purchased a home you could not possibly afford, Banks enticed you to buy, and you were tricked into a “liar’s loan.”  It takes courage to admit you were trying to make a profit in an “up” housing market and courage to admit the gamble didn’t pay off.

Diversity is replacing American Individualism. This is important, because diversity attempts to divide us into groups instead of bringing us together.  Immigrants have been coming to this Country since its founding.  Once new immigrants realized their dreams and legally arrived here, they rushed to assimilate into the culture of their dreams.  They wanted to be Americans.  Immigrants wanted the chance to make a life much better than was available in the Countries which they left.

The new immigrants didn’t want a guarantee, they wanted a chance.

Today, we have demonstrators demanding we change our rules for Immigration, while carrying the flag of a foreign country.  They’ve since figured out that was politically a bad idea, but their true allegiances were obvious.   It takes courage to stand up to the mainstream media, their allies the Progressives, and demand the legally enacted immigration laws be enforced.

Food stamp usage is at the highest in history.  The number of people on disability is increasing daily. Some suggest this is because of a benevolent government.  It is not benevolence, it is bad economic conditions caused by an overly intrusive government.  It takes courage to stand up and demand limited government, less interference in private industry, while allowing businesses to grow and hire people.  History, not politics show FDR, Carter and Obama are all Presidents who pushed a Progressive Agenda which stifled the economy.

We have thousands of kids graduating from college with an expensive education, high education debt, and they cannot find jobs.  Jobs are not created by government, they are created by individuals.  The government is overhead, small business is the job creation engine.  It takes courage to stand up for the young people and demand the government to get out of their way.  One of the highest levels of unemployment is young people just starting their careers—how can that be helpful?

It takes courage to come out against illegal immigration while at the same time pushing to restructure our immigration laws to allow us to attract the best and the brightest.  Be clear, stand against illegal immigration and stand for legal immigration reform.

It takes courage to stand up for the Constitution and all its amendments.  We have an Attorney General who met with the Press to tell them he would start following the Constitution. The Attorney General does not have a Constitutional right to invent his rules for freedom of the press.  The Press has a responsibility to monitor and expose bad government.   It takes courage to demand the media do their job.

Most of us will never confront the danger faced by S/Sgt. Romesha.  However, in the United States today, our most basic traditions and documents, are being attacked by those who would lead us to their concept of a Utopian world.

It takes courage to stand up to these folks and defend what is yours.

It takes courage to live each and every day while being true to your belief in the American way.

You will be challenged, you will be insulted, you will be demeaned and you will lose some friends.  No war was ever won by cowards, and trust me, this is a war for our Country and our traditions.

Look into the mirror and ask yourself: Do I have the courage to stand up for individual freedom?
