The Road Back To Prosperity

The American people truly are amazing. Over the past several years I have been fearful we were losing our way due to increasing government, increasing regulations, increasing debt, decreasing liberty, decreasing income and a decrease in trust for our leaders, all which left me fearful of our future.

Eventually the truth is told. We are now learning the true goals and results coming from the Affordable Care Act. We are learning the IRS is used for political purposes. We are learning the Obama Administration ignored warnings which would have saved four American lives, and then lied to the public to cover their errors. We are learning the current Administration is tapping the telephones of the press. America is awake and we can look for change coming with the next election.

The bad news is we can expect changes in the next election. Republicans will be vaulted into leadership positions in both houses of the Congress. President Obama will be disregarded as steps are taken to get American’s back to work, lessen the burden of regulation and increase opportunity. Why is this bad news, because the time for talk is over and the time to govern has arrived?

Many of my Progressive Friends rightly point out the Republicans did a lousy job last time they controlled Washington. Republicans passed an unfunded, giant prescription benefit. Republicans allowed the Housing Market Bubble, by not exercising leadership. Republicans were cowed by the ultra-Progressive Maxine Waters and Barney Frank. George Bush, an honorable man, made a huge mistake when he said, “I’ve abandoned free market principles to save the free market system.” With that one statement he set the stage for Progressives to try a very destructive plan from which we have not fully recovered.

It is time to jump start the recovery. First step, open Federal lands to oil development. Fracking is both safe and effective. Being energy independent removes the temptation to try and straighten out a 2000 year old mess in the Middle East. Second, reduce tax rates on everybody. By everybody I mean corporations, small businesses and individuals. Third, roll back the EPA to 1990 levels and then examine every new rule with an eye on ROI for the American Public. Regulations should be approved by Congress, while returning unelected bureaucrats to their proper role as advisors and administrators. Fourth, start pruning the Federal Government. Education is an issue best handled by each state. Farm subsidies need to be addressed, mostly by doing away with the department of Agriculture. Ditto on the Department of Commerce. Did I mention the Department of Energy? These government agencies are expensive to maintain, increase bureaucracy and reduce flexibility.

Immigration demands an answer. The Republicans should become champions of a fair system designed to protect America first. When the economy starts growing at 7% there will be plenty of jobs. There is room for every stake holder at the table while we straighten out this mess. Fix it because it is the right thing, not because it is a political issue.

We have over 200 years of history showing what has worked and what has failed. Time to push the politicians away from the table and replace them with practical people who understand how to put America back to work. There is a serious disconnect between the public and Washington. Time to remind Washington who employs them.

The American people always get what they want when it comes to politics. We got into this mess by listening to people who painted a picture of equal outcomes regardless of effort. These people painted a picture distorting our Countries history and claiming we are selfish, war mongers when exactly the opposite is true. When we demand plans that make sense, we will get plans that make sense.

The answer to our future is not a bigger, more intrusive government. The answer for our future is individuals dedicated to providing for their families while being productive members of the community. The answer is not to each according to need, the answer is to each according to their effort. For those unable, for physical or mental reasons, we can all help because we know this is the most generous country in history. Time to return to our role as World Leader.
