RSM Relay for Life Kickoff Party on Monday

Details about the kickoff party for the RSM Relay for Life, and a history of Relay.

Please come and celebrate the American Cancer Society's 100-year anniversary. First, start off with our kickoff party for the Rancho Santa Margarita Relay for Life on Monday, April 22, at Starbucks in the Lowe's shopping center.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m., and should run a couple of hours. Come and say "Hi" to old and new friends, eat snacks and find out about all the exciting things planned for our RSM Relay on July 13. It is a 24-hour event at Central Park, which becomes a tent city as participants spend the night. But not everyone hits the sack. Cancer never sleeps, and neither do many of the participants in Relay.

Relay for Life is a time to Celebrate, Remember, and Fight Back! We are an organized, overnight community walk with teams of people who camp out to raise funds in the fight against cancer. Members of each team take turns walking around the track along the outside of Central Park, so there is no need for anyone to stay for the entire event—although you won't want to leave! There will be food, games, activities, and entertainment provided that build camaraderie and a family-friendly environment for the entire community.

Memorable moments will be the Survivor's Lap, the Luminaria Lights, and the Fight Back Ceremony. This is one of the ACS's largest fundraisers.  The mission of the American Cancer Society is to “eliminate cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy and service.” Relay began in 1985 but the ACS has been FIGHTING THE FIGHT for 100 years!

Come celebrate with us and wear your "purple" as a sign of HOPE that someday soon, we will find a cure!
