Make a Difference in Your Community - Margot Ferron

The American Cancer Society is partnering again with the City of Mission Viejo to host enrollment for the Cancer Prevention Study 3.   Mission Viejo is the location for the study in South Orange County, but you don’t have to be a resident of Mission Viejo to participate.

You can be the hope and make a difference by participating in the Cancer Prevention Study 3.  The purpose of the CPS-3 is to better understand the factors that cause or prevent cancer.   The study examines lifestyle, behavior, environment and genetic factors.  The key is to use this information to eliminate cancer.

To participate in the study you need to have never been diagnosed with any cancers other than basal cell and squamous cell skin cancer.   Men and women between the ages of 30 and 65 are eligible and need to be willing to make a 20-30 year commitment.   There is no cost to participate in the study.

The study involves the participant to sign a consent form, complete a survey, provide some physical measurements (waist size) and give a small sample of blood.   At your enrollment appointment a certified, trained phlebotomist will get the sample. This appointment will take approximately 20-30 minutes.  After that participants do all follow-up surveys and updates at home.

Even though it seems like a long term commitment once you are enrolled the time commitment is small.   You can make a difference by supporting this research.
