Update 8 p.m.: Rocktoberfest 'To Heck With the Rules'

Still time to join the festival and grab some grub.

Update 8 p.m.—no, wait, NOT 8 p.m.
The bells just rang at the Bell Tower, signaling the 8 o'clock hour. Rocktoberfest is over. What??? The Tijuana Dogs just finished a Michael Jackson song and now they're going to thumb their nose at the event deadline. Appropriately, they're singing Rebel Yell by Billy Idol.

Of course, they're just trying to send everyone home in a good mood. One thing is certain: Everyone's walking out of here pumped up.

Nice touch.

No, wait!!! The Tijuana Dogs have finished with Rebell Yell and they're going even longer. Long live rock 'n roll—into the night. They're bringing Guns and Roses to the table with Sweet Child O' Mine. These guys are rebellious!!

But alas, it's over. Everyone gets an extra 10 minutes. The OCSD was powerless. That's what I call added value.

Rocktoberfest is Rolling
Update 7 p.m., including more photos

The line is beer line at Rocktoberfest is deep enough that Mayor Tony Beall has taken to serving up the suds. And you thought the only thing he could do was legislate.

The Tijuana Dogs are on stage right now. There's about an hour left, and they are crowd pleasers. They were introduced by Brad McGirr—another city councilman—who called the Dogs the best band he knows of. I have already ordered a Beatles album for him.

If you were at Rocktoberfest today, upload your photos in the Announcements, or create a blog and tell everyone what you thought of it. The crowd is down a bit, likely in competition with Halloween parties. Chances are next year's event won't be the Saturday before Halloween. Everyone seems to be having a pretty good time.

Here are about 10 more photos from the last couple of hours.

The Rancho Santa Margarita Chamber of Commerce is the driving force behind this event and it's president, Suzanne Singh, has been working hard all day—on her 50th birthday. A couple of bands have sung Happy Birthday. Nice touch.

Rocktoberfest Is In Full Song
Original post 5 p.m.

Rocktoberfest, the one-day music festival—with plenty of food and vendors—is well underway. There are three hours left. On stage right now is Forty2, a group from Rancho Santa Margarita.

It is the second RSM band to take the stage today. Hero For Today was on earlier.

The Tijuana Dogs will close the show.

There's a Kid's Fun Zone, beer and wine sales, and things to look at.

Be sure to come by and say Hi at the Patch booth. We're between Auto Collision Solutions and Giraffe Promotions.

Darth Vader just made an appearance. Quite imposing.
