Man Kills Himself in Middle of Mission Viejo Cul-de-sac

It is with a wholehearted and open mind that I challenge this community to embrace that which I know it can do: mindfully read this comment without reservation. . .
THIS is clearly an extremely sensitive topic, and situation. In immediate regards to the folks impacted by this tragedy described in the above article, my heart goes out to all family and friends, as well as all those impacted by this affection. I too have lost people in my life and, while it's probably not possible to say that "I understand what someone is going through", the pain and suffering in this situation and those that are similar in nature is an emotion than I know we as humans can empathize together.
*I'm not making any statements here, just asking questions. Also, to be clear, I feel extreme sympathy for those people (and their surviving family members) whom are injured and killed by suffering both intentional and unintentional bullet wounds, especially young and innocent children. Stealing someone else's opportunity to live just doesn't sit well with me. At all.
Thus, it is with dignity and respect that I urge us as a society to further explore the following notions:
Does a "bigger picture" regarding the notion that guns are responsible for killing people exist? Has anyone claimed that a "car" is responsible for killing someone involved in a drunk driving collision? Is the drunk driver responsible? Is the bar/restaurant responsible? Is the alcohol company responsible? Should cars be banned because of the possible tragedies that might occur by accident or by intent? While these two things might have some non-comparable variables at play, I wonder if both share a connected "bigger picture"?
What's curious, according to the CDC (as of 29 March 2013, sourced from http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr61/nvsr61_06.pdf and http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/lcod.htm), the top causes of death (2011) in the USA are the following: heart disease (597,689 deaths)Cancer: 574,743 Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 138,080 Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 129,476Alzheimer's disease: 83,494 Diabetes: 69,071 Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis: 50,476 Influenza and Pneumonia: 50,097 Intentional self-harm (suicide): 38,364 (more self-inflicted suicide deaths by firearm than homicides by firearm)(According to the CDC, the firearm homicide total in 2011 was roughly 11,000.)
I'm not sure how many of these leading causes of death are as a result of the usage of firearms nor am I a scientist or doctor. I further wonder what precedence, if any, should be given to addressing the leading causes of the causes of death in this country. Is the theory of utilitarianism being ignored or pursued? How should a government triage addressing each cause of death? Assuming the population of the USA was 311,800,000 in 2011 and using the numbers above from the CDC, approximately 0.00003527902% of people died from firearm homicide and 0.00191689865% of the population died from heart disease. If one combines the 8 other medical causes of death from above, that would total 1693126/311,800,000=0.00543016677% of the population died from various medical fatalities.
PS- I wonder what would happen if the focus on the word 'cause of death' was explored. Meaning, heart disease is a 'leading cause of death'. But is heart disease to blame for the death, or in some cases, could heart disease be a result of a lifetime of consistently eating unhealthy and not exercising? Or could it be hereditary? I wonder if the 'cause' of the 'cause' of death is important? So in final conclusion, which should be asked, "how are people dying" or "WHY ARE PEOPLE DYING?", "WHY do people die from gun violence?", or both?
Again, I'm not expressing my opinion in this message. I am asking questions and presenting possible relevant data sourced from the US Government. I also think there might be more data, less data, more questions, less questions, etc that are present and absent from this message.
