Beware of Bicyclist With A Basket on Local Trails

An unusual encounter takes place in Rancho Santa Margarita.

Death Race 2000 in Rancho Santa Margarita? Well, maybe not exactly, but there was a report over the weekend of someone engaging in wheeled terror near the lake.

According to the blotter of the Orange County Sheriff's Department, a man on a beach cruiser tried to run another bicyclist off a trail.

The informant indicated the death machine was piloted by a man in his 50s, and his tan bicycle had a basket on the front.

The informant, riding a silver mountain bike, noticed that whenever he pulled over, the subject would follow him, and conveyed to deputies that the beach cruiser was trying to run him off the trail.

The call to police services was made Saturday, 1:42 p.m., from Santa Margarita Parkway and Las Flores.

This report was culled from the Orange County Sheriff's website. Not all facts in each report are made public; the outcome of the report, as well as the facts, may differ from the original blotter item. All items are alleged to have occurred. There should be no assumption of guilt based on this limited information.
