Crime: Neighbors Squabble; Who Can Yell At the Kids?

How much are you going to let your kids get away with? And more importantly, are you going to let someone else yell at them?

That was the crux of the argument on Tuesday morning in Rancho Santa Margarita, according to the blotter of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

A woman called OCSD to report her male neighbor was verbally assaultive because Monday night, the informant had yelled at the neighbor’s wife and kids.

The informant believed the kids were responsible for causing a dent in her car while they were playing ball in the street.

The call was made Tuesday, 8:45 a.m., from Pomelo.

The cops will straighten her out

A woman whose daughter engaged in a physical altercation with her contacted deputies and requested they speak to the young girl about her behavior.

The call was made Monday, 7:41 p.m., from the 31800 block of Joshua Drive.

You're in the safest city in California

Early Monday morning, a resident called OCSD to report a man had knocked on the informant's door about 10 minutes earlier asking suspicious questions, including what city he was in. Although probably not the answer the man was looking for, he was in the safest city in California for its size, based on FBI crime statistics.

The man, in his 30s, left the scene toward Antonio Parkway.

The call was made Monday, 2:19 a.m., from Lampara.

The following is a summary of selected calls from Rancho Santa Margarita to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department on March 25-27, 2013.

Assist outside agency, Tuesday, 3:12 p.m., at La Miranda and Buena Suerte. A 6-year-old child got locked in a restroom at Central Park. Orange County Fire Authority broke down the door to retrieve the child.

Suspicious person in vehicle, Wednesday, 12:50 p.m., Arroyo Vista and Banderas. An informant reported a man and woman were possibly having intercourse in a gray Dodge truck with a camper shell in the parking lot of Arroyo Vista Park.

Grand theft report, Wednesday, 10:43 a.m., Flor de Mar. Two blowers were reported stolen from a work truck.

Welfare check, Wednesday, 7:36 a.m., on Via Amistosa. An informant indicated she had not heard from a friend with a history of mental illness since last Thursday, which was the last time the woman had been seen. Deputies made several visits over the last week. They entered the residence and found the 46-year-old woman deceased.

Disturbance, Tuesday, 11:13 p.m., on Via Caseta. A caller complained about a neighbor who had friends over and they were being loud in the garage; the resident explained he had friends over celebrating spring break and would shut down the party.

Disturbance—mechanical, Tuesday, 10:44 p.m., from Las Flores and Banderas. A caller reported hearing construction work going on at the Tesoro Trails development despite the late hour.

Disturbance, Tuesday, 3:26 p.m., on Castanetas. A man reported his mother-in-law was at his residence serving him divorce papers—and refusing to leave the residence.

Battery report, Tuesday, 4:35 p.m., from Flor de Sol. A man wanted to file a late report after being thrown out of a medical building following his doctor’s appointment.

Petty theft report, Tuesday, 2:37 p.m., 30600 block of Santa Margarita Parkway. A Styles for Less employee was cooperative regarding a theft on site.

Citizen assist, Tuesday, 2:20 p.m., on Thorn Oak. A caller complained that someone keeps dropping off property at his residence.

Vandalism in progress, Tuesday, 1:37 p.m., from Antonio and Bienvenidos. There was a report of six juveniles who were spray painting a water pump. Some of the boys were detained but they were not spray painting.

Citizen assist, Tuesday, 1:03 p.m., 29700 block of Melinda Road. A woman with a restraining order against her husband feared that he was in a vehicle that she thought was his. She was afraid to leave the leasing office of the apartment complex. Deputies were unable to locate the subject, but cleared the apartment and a locksmith changed the locks.

Disturbance—family dispute, Tuesday, 10:00 a.m., on Daffodil. A woman reported her sister and her sister’s two sons, ages 28 and 18, were in a physical altercation. The 9-1-1 operator heard the argument, then the line disconnected.

Suspicious person/circumstances, Tuesday, 8:25 a.m., 21500 block of Silvertree Lane. An informant reported a tan Ford Explorer was occupied by a male, about 18 years old, smoking drugs. The vehicle was not occupied when deputies arrived.

Disturbance, Monday, 11:11 p.m., from San Angelo. An informant reported its mother’s ex-boyfriend, who has a history of drinking, was at the front door yelling and ringing the bell and refusing to leave.

Petty theft, Monday, 8:08 p.m., 22200 block of El Paseo. An employee of Kohl’s Department store reported a man dashed out of the store through an emergency exit with a cart full of merchandise. Of course, he did so without paying. The value of the merchandise was unknown.

Disturbance, Monday, 7:03 p.m., from Via Amor. An informant said his aunt was arguing with family members and had possibly been drinking.

Suspicious persons/circumstances, Monday, 6:15 p.m., from Via Meseta. An informant reported a man and woman dumpster diving; they were in a teal GMC truck with "a bed full of treasures."

Suspicious person/circumstances, Monday, 4:59 p.m., 20900 block of Raintree Lane. A man reported he was receiving suspicious phone calls, possibly obscene.

Disturbance, Monday, 12:20 p.m., 22700 block of El Prado. A caller reported a man and woman were screaming at each other.

Assist outside agency, Monday, 9:41 a.m., State 241 and Santa Margarita Parkway. A small car was pulled to the right shoulder of the northbound on-ramp with a female driver slumped over the steering wheel.

Assist outside agency, Monday, 7:52 a.m., on Las Flores and Vista la Cuesta. An 11-year-old boy fell off his bicycle and was semi-consicous; a passerby asked the boy for his residence, and Orange County Fire Authority responded to the boy's aid.

Disturbance—music or party, Monday, 2:45 a.m., on Via Contento. Neighbors complained about a woman and her duaghters who were on their front porch talking loudly. They told deputies they would keep it down.
