Crime: She Was Afraid of Things That Go Ring in the Night

Someone rings your doorbell in the middle of the night? You know that's not right.

A resident of Coto de Caza contacted the Orange County Sheriff's Department on Wednesday, fearful that a prowler was on her property.

According to the blotter of the OCSD, the woman told deputies that the lights in her garage had just come on, and that someone had just rung her doorbell—though she couldn't see anyone.

The 9-1-1 call was made at 2:22 a.m.

Students receive lewd texts

An informant notified OCSD that several female students, in the eighth grade, were receiving lewd text messages. The call was made Tuesday, 11:32 a.m., from the 29500 block of Aventura.

Burglar alarms go off like clockwork

In a one-hour period beginning Wednesday, 2:19 a.m., six burglar alarms went off—and five more went off over the next 2 1/2 hours. The calls centered on buildings located on Empresa, Tomas, Esperanza, Antonio, Banderas and Alma Aldea. Deputies believe they were in connection with a power outage in the area that affected thousands of Southern California Edison customers.

The following is a summary report of calls from Rancho Santa Margarita, Las Flores, Trabuco Canyon and Coto de Caza to the Orange County Sheriff's Department on Jan. 29-30, 2013.

Suspicious vehicle, Thursday, 12:27 a.m., from Via Con Dios and Las Flores. A caller noticed vehicle on Via Con Dios next to the toall road that had its windows fogged up.

Assist outside agency, Wednesday, 6:03 p.m., from El Morro. The postal service wanted to alert authorities to some stolen mail.

Traffic accident non-injury, Wednesday, 5:25 p.m., from Comercio and Empresa. A woman called OCSD to report that she had rear-ended a car in front of Penske Toyota while traveling 2 mph. The driver of the other car was belligerant, called the informant names and refused to exchange information.

Drunk down, Wednesday, 5:16 p.m., from Plano Trabuco and Santa Margarita Parkway. An informant contacted OCSD to report a 17-year-old who was fall-down drunk.

Welfare check, Wednesday, 1:56 p.m., 20700 block of Mountain View Road. A school district's director of psychology contacted OCSD after hearing from a student that his mother wanted to commit suicide.

Citizen assist, Wednesday, 9:00 a.m., from La Flauta. A crossing guard contacted OCSD after getting into an argument with a man in a black BMW.

Suspicious persons, Wednesday, 9:03 a.m., from Plushtone. A caller was concerned because a man and woman were rooting through trash cans and, after the woman got in a pickup truck, the caller thought the duo might be casing the area.

Citizen assist, Wednesday, 12:06 p.m., 100 block of Aliento. A father sought the help of deputies after his 44-year-old blind son did not answer the door to his apartment after missing an appointment at the leasing office an hour earlier. Deputies eventually made contact with the man.

Petty theft, Wednesday, 7:19 a.m., 28600 block of Oso Parkway. A woman driving a black Mercedes Benz stopped at the the Chevron station and got a cup of coffee,  then left without paying for it.

Disturbance, Wednesday, 12:17 a.m., from Baya. A caller reported an upstairs neighbor who was moving furniture at a late hour and was noisy.
