A residential fire in Rancho Cielo broke open the cold evening sky Tuesday as residents tried to put out a second-story blaze with garden hoses—from inside the house.
When Orange County Fire Authority personnel rolled into the neighborhood, heavy smoke was billowing from the two-story home and flames were visible from the street.
Inside, residents armed with garden hoses stood on the second floor, trying to contain the damage to the burning bedroom.
Firefighters removed the residents and extinguished the blaze in about 15 minutes as a crowd of 40 to 50 neighbors watched.
“The fire was contained to one bedroom with heavy smoke damage throughout the second floor,” said Marc Stone, spokesman for the OCFA. There were no injuries to firefighters or residents, he said.
The fire was reported at 7:30 p.m. at 32055 Camino del Cielo.
As of 9:30 p.m., the cause wasn't known, Stone said.
