Loaded U-Haul Got Suspects Hauled In—For Grand Theft

Two men were arrested after police found 250 plastic shipping bins in the back of a U-Haul.

A loaded U-Haul truck landed a pair of would-be thieves in trouble Sunday afternoon after a traffic stop that featured several Orange County Sheriff deputies drawing their guns.

Deputies stopped the U-Haul about 4:40 p.m. on Oso Parkway near Meandering Trail in Las Flores. When they checked the contents of the truck, they found 250 plastic shipping bins from the CVS Pharmacy at 27702 Crown Valley Parkway in Ladera Ranch.

The bins—sturdy plastic shipping boxes referred to as totes by CVS—were valued at more than $400, satisfying the requirement for grand theft.
