Motorcyclist Injured After Short Chase

Crashes while attempting to flee Orange County Sheriff's deputy, but loses battle with a law-abiding SUV driver.

A motorcyclist attempting to flee the lights and sirens of a police cruiser ended up in the hospital after a short chase over the weekend near Trabuco Mesa Park.

An Orange County Sheriff's deputy attempted to pull over a man riding a motorcycle Saturday evening while on Las Flores. The motorcyclist sped through a red light in an attempt to escape and turned right on Antonio Parkway.

But that's where his journey came an end. A Chevy Trailblazer turned from Vereda Laguna onto southbound Antonio. According to Sgt. Frank Nin, the SUV became aware of the lights and siren and pulled to the right as it was supposed to do. However, the motorcyclist attempted to pass the SUV on the right and sideswiped the vehicle.

The motorcycle was forced into the raised curb on the west side of Antonio and the rider was thrown into a greenbelt.

The rider, a 25-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital for a possible broken collarbone, lacerations and hand injuries.

The incident took place Saturday, 7:56 p.m., near Antonio and Vereda Laguna.
