Police Blotter: Catch and Release for Possible Burglar

Also, a man attempts to break into several vehicles.

A burglary alarm blared at a Rancho Santa Margarita residence Tuesday afternoon, triggering a response by the Orange County Sheriff's Department because a neighbor confirmed that someone was actually breaking into the residence.

Deputies entered the home, but a suspect jumped over the backyard fence and ran toward the 241 toll road. A unit caught up with and arrested the suspect, a 25-year-old construction worker. He was released from the Central Mens Jail after the district attorney refused to prosecute him.

The call came in around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, from San Luis Rey.

Man attempts to break in to several vehicles
A man wearing a dark hooded jacket broke into a Rancho Santa Margarita man's vehicle early Thursday morning. The vehicle was parked in front of the man's house. The suspect fled before he could be recognized.

Several hours later, another informant saw his car being broken into by a young 20-something man with a skateboard, also wearing a dark hoodie. The vehicle was parked on the street. The suspect managed to escape and deputies were unable to locate him.

Both reports indicated the subject was about 6 feet tall.

The first call came in around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, from Calle de los Ninos. The second call came in around 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, from Via Hacienda.

The following is a summary report of calls from Rancho Santa Margarita, Coto de Caza, Trabuco Canyon and Las Flores to the Orange County Sheriff's Department from May 8 to May 10.

Disturbance 11:35 p.m. Thursday, on Santa Fe. Two men and one woman were arguing outside of an informant’s apartment.

Welfare Check 10:43 p.m. Thursday, on Santa Fe. A caller said her neighbor's dog was barking loudly, which was unusual.

Keep the Peace 10:16 p.m. Thursday, on Castano. A woman had a recurring problem with her upstairs neighbor. The neighbor continually dropped things on his floor on purpose, according to the woman, because she had asked him to be quiet.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 6:22 p.m. Thursday, on Arbor Walk Lane. A youth was jiggling door handles on vehicles on an informant’s street.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 6:18 p.m. Thursday, on Santa Margarita Parkway and Avenida de las Flores. A caller saw a man drinking a beer in front of Target.

Citizen Assist 5:53 p.m. Thursday, on Reata. A woman said she had found razor blades in a trash can at Mesa Linda Park.

Assist Outside Agency 5:18 p.m. Thursday, on Colorido. The Orange County Fire Authority needed assistance with a 5-year-old girl who had been bitten by a dog in the face. The dog belonged to a neighbor, who was at the scene. The child had a small laceration on her nose. Animal Control was also en route.

Suspicious Person in Vehicle 2:42 p.m. Thursday, 30200 block of Esperanza. A caller was perturbed by a person who kept driving around a parking lot, parking in different spots before driving around again.

Suspicious Person in Vehicle 9:52 a.m. Thursday, on Salvia. An informant saw a man drive his blue pickup truck through her neighborhood, taking items that were left out for charity.

Citizen Assist 4:34 p.m. Wednesday, on Antonio Parkway and Oso Parkway. A woman said a kid had pushed her child at school earlier that day.

Assist Outside Agency 9:05 a.m. Wednesday, on Pasada Valiente. A federal agent wanted a deputy to stand by while he served a search warrant for embezzlement.

Petty Theft Report 7:37 a.m. Wednesday, on El Corazon.Two women reported that their purses had been stolen.

Warrant Arrest 7:25 a.m. Wednesday, on Santa Margarita Parkway and Alicia Parkway. Deputies arrested a 23-year-old man, who is being held without bail at the Central Mens Jail.

Traffic Accident 8:55 p.m. Tuesday, on Santa Margarita Parkway and Alicia Parkway. A silver Volkswagen Beetle collided with a black sedan. The driver of the sedan, a 30-year-old woman, took off, but quickly returned to the scene of the accident. Deputies arrested her for failing a blood-alcohol test. She was cited and released from the Intake Release Center.

Traffic Stop 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, on Antonio Parkway and Avenida de las Banderas. Deputies arrested a 24-year-old man, who was released from the Central Mens Jail by a court order.

Traffic Accident 3:58 p.m. Tuesday, on Antonio Parkway and La Promesa. A woman in a white vehicle hit another car after running a red light.

Disturbance 12:07 p.m. Tuesday, on Rabano. A woman was tired of her neighbor yelling at her.
