Police Blotter: Youths Make a Run for It, Nabbed at Ralphs

Also, a man stops a planned teen-aged party at an abandoned house, and a group of boys shoot ducks at a golf course.

A caller from the Joplin Boys Ranch said two boys had escaped from the correctional facility in Trabuco Canyon Thursday evening. Both of the boys ran toward O’Neill Park. Deputies searched the immediate vicinity, but could not locate the boys. A helicopter search was performed, but had to be stopped because cloudy weather caused low visibility for the pilots.

The two remained free for about four hours. An off-duty corrections officer said he saw the two escaped youths using a pay phone in front of the Ralphs in Rancho Santa Margarita. After finishing a phone call, the boys began to walk toward the Ralphs. Deputies caught the boys and transported them back to the correctional facility.

The first call came in around 8 p.m. on Thursday, from the 19400 block of Rose Canyon Road. The second call came in around 11 p.m. on Thursday, from Santa Margarita Parkway and Antonio Parkway.
